You should choose your lighting scheme in your living room around the furniture and other décor in this and the way in which it is arranged. If the main seating area is in the center of the room, try to put lamps in each corner of the room. If the main seating is arranged around the wall, floor lamps or a pair of sports lamps such as accent lamps at opposite ends of the sofa will provide ample light. You can also add wall mounted fixtures. For smaller living rooms, try to use recessed lighting in the ceiling. It is a good idea to use a smaller number of large lamps than a bigger number of smaller lamps.
To avoid these and the unnatural shadows on a persons face from direct down lighting you can dim the recessed lighting and turn on some sconces and table lambs to have more light hitting them from the side and front for a more flattering appearance. Meanwhile the recessed lighting can do its job of highlighting the rooms decor in a subtle way by filling out all the nooks and crannies of the room. There are a number of other areas in your home that can take advantage of some of the features of recessed lighting.
Clear lamp halogens are not the best for general lighting however. They highlight the outlines of objects too sharply and produce distinctive shadows. It is much better to use recessed halogen lights with frosted lenses that allow a gentler dispersal of light so that with gatherings of people glare is not an issue and skin problems and wrinkles are not highlighted. While at the same time the grandeur of the living room can be conveyed with works of art and period furniture bathed in sharper accent lighting from the clear lamp halogen bulbs.
Lamps with the main light on the top with an extra halogen light can be used to illuminate a whole room, along with extra lights being used for you to illuminate comfy chairs for reading. Table lamps, ceiling and wall lights supply another appealing form of living room lighting. By using a combination of this sort of living room lighting, it is possible to illuminate just about any area of the room. Many different types of materials are used these days in living room lighting. These include perspex, coloured chrome, bronze and brass. Thus, depending on which kind of style youve got inside your room, youre bound to find a material which fits in very well.
